There a few ways for you to go from JFK to Manhattan:
1, By AirTrain, Subway & LIRR
It's the fast, economical way to travel from to JFK to Manhattan. It takes only $7. Drawbacks: not easy to train if you are travelling with big luggage
If you want to take the subway line A to Manhattan or Brooklyn, please take the Airtrain to Howard Beach station; It takes 60 minutes to get to midtown manhattan; If you want to take subway lines E, J, Z or LIRR (Long Island Rail Road) please take the Airtrain to Jamaica Station.
If you are travelling from Manhattan to JFK, then you need to take the A train marked Far Rockaway or Rockaway Park, NOT Lefferts Blvd.
2, By Taxi
The easiest way to travel to Manhattan. It takes $45 from JFK to Manhattan with Bridge tolls and tip excluded. The bridge tolls can be up to $4.50. About the tip to the driver, it's at least 15% of your taxi fee. It's expensive to ride the taxi alone. But if you have up to four persons together, then it's the best choice.
3, Car Rental
Align the Airtrain at Station C: Federal Circle. That's the car rental center: See the map. Car Rental is not recommended if you are just staying in the city area. Parking is expensive and inconvenient.
4, Shuttle Buses
There are two bus shuttles in JFK: New York Airport Service Express Bus and Super Shuttle.
The first one is available from 6:30 a.m. - 11:10 p.m., leaving every 15-30 minutes. Fare is $13.
