Category: Weather
With the average temperature ranging from 24 degrees Celsius to 32 degrees Celsius, Singapore has only one season and that is summer.
Sun-worshippers, swimmers, sailors and water-sports enthusiasts will find themselves in their natural element in Singapore. Those hate the heat and high humidity would not feel discomfort either, since almost all shopping malls, hotels, office buildings, restaurants and subway trains in Singapore are fully air-conditioned.
Located just 1.37 degrees north of the Equator, Singapore is always hot and humid, with more rainfall during the NE monsoon season (November-January) and sudden downpour at any time of the day. A small folder umbrella would suffice to shun the constant sunshine and unexpected showers. Suntan lotion should also be part of the kit.
Singapore's equatorial weather warrants casual light summer clothing, especially for moderate activities in the outdoors. Having T-shirts, jeans, blouses, skirts, slacks, sandals and sneakers would be good, and can be acceptable in most restaurants and nightspots if neatly dressed. Long sleeved shirts and long cotton trousers can be used in the evening to keep the mosquitoes out.
A more formal dress code may be observed at some establishments, such as posh restaurants and clubby nightspots. That said, it is always advisable to check specific dress codes before arrival.

The public transportation system of Singapore is arguably among the best in the world, the MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) among others, being the easiest and least expensive way to find your way around Singapore. Getting around Singapore cannot be more effortless by using the MRT.
MRT operates seven rail lines, all fully air-conditioned and impeccably clean and covering all major tourist attractions you would want to find. Trains usually come in the space of 3-5 minutes.
The major lines include the North South Line which runs from Marina Bay Station to Jurong East Station via Woodlands Station, and the East West Line which runs from Pasir Ris Station to Boon Lay Station.
Major MRT stations in central Singapore include Orchard, Somerset, and City Hall.
At Tanah Merah Station, those wishing to connect to the Changi Airport and Singapore Expo Centre can hop on board the Singapore Changi Airport Express.
Fares vary with distance, ranging from S$0.6 to S$ 1.9.
Note: Purchased tickets for less than 4 stops? distance should be used in 40 minutes, and 9 stops in 60 minutes, 15 stops 75 minutes, so on and so forth.

Taking a taxi is a comfortable and convenient way of travel around Singapore. Singapore taxi fares are metered and reasonably priced, so being over-charged is out of the question. A normal cab ride incurs a S$2.20-2.40 Flagdown fee, 10 cents per 225m for the first 10km, 10 cents per 200m thereafter (10 cents per 25 sec of waiting), plus peak hour and public holiday surcharges. There is a surcharge of S$5 each time you?re picked up at Changi Airport.
To get a Singapore taxi:
1. Simply wave an out-stretched hand anywhere on most roads any time of the day, a cab can be flagged down.
Convenient but sometimes frustrating, if you're not going in the taxi driver's direction, he refuses to pick you up and simply zooms off.
Note: Cabs showing a green light or simply a light on the roof are available. Booked taxis either show a red light, or are not lighted up.
2. Queue up at the taxi stands
The surest way of being picked up- refusing to take prospective passengers at a taxi stand wherever he/she wants to go is against the law!
More likely to get extremely annoying - waiting for about twenty minutes in a long queue is often the case.
Note: Taxi stands are well marked and well suited, mostly outside major shopping malls, public buildings, and public transport stations.
3. Book a Singapore cab from taxi companies
The most efficient and stable way. Just tell the receptionist the pick up location and the destination location, and hold on for the taxi number. Usually wait for 5-10mins, the taxi will come to you.
Note: Different taxi companies charge different fares and surcharges. Call to check details:

According to the draft of the 2008 Formula One World Championship calendar released by the FIA, 28 September is the provisional date of the first Singapore GP race to be staged. If approved, this round of 2008 circuit will be the first ever night race in F1?s 60-year history.
A substantial chunk of the tickets are expected to be affordable, with the cheapest likely to be as low as around S$40-50 for the trial races along the 5.26-km street circuit. Tickets for standing-room area on race day will cost around S$100 each. For the exclusive paddock area, cost will add up to a whopping S$6,000-7,000.
Corporate ticket sales will start on 28 November, Public ticket sales will begin in mid-December.
Singapore Government will impose a tiered additional F1 levy of "no more than 30 per cent"- 30 per cent for hotels on the trackside, and 20 per cent for others, on hotel room revenues for about seven days around the race period to defray the cost of organizing the race.
The F1 levy will be effective from September 24 to 28.
Note: All decisions announced are not finalized and pending fine tuning.

Singapore City, nicknamed the "Lion City", is the dignified capital of the cognominal city-state at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula.
Apart from serving as the world?s busiest port anchoring one of the world?s most vital trading channels-the Straits of Malacca, Singapore is, in many other respects, rightfully lionized throughout the Far East.
Singapore is the tried and true microcosm of Asia, where Chinese fortune-tellers and India spice merchants hawk to the same person; where the cry of the imam competes with the patter of temple worshipers; where Malay is sung in the national anthem and English, Mandarin, and Tamil are spoken in daily life.
The techno-funky "New Asia" is also known worldwide for its exponential economic growth, the impeccable cleanliness, and the impressive efficiency- a welcome respite from the somewhat stereotyped poverty-stricken, chaotic, and insouciant Asia.
Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, Singapore Zoological Gardens, Merlion Park, the Night Safari and Bukit Timah Nature Reserve surely represent the Garden City?s green thumb at its best.
Everyone comes to eat and shop, hence the overwhelming distinction of its ethnic culinary communities such as Chinatown, Little India, Arab Street and shopping meccas like Orchard Road and Suntec City.
